Want updates on housing regarding COVID-19? Check out this page. In-person classes are postponed for now. Please take the eHome class with a consult from MaineStream for your certificate – still good for 2 years.
Not sure what to do when buying a home? What is all that financial jargon your banker is throwing at you? MaineStream Finance/Penquis is a certified HomeBuyer Education provider for HUD and Maine State Housing Authority. Your certificate of completion allows you to access special loan programs through MSHA, FHA, and VA and is good for two years.
We offer two ways for you to take a home buyer education class:
In-person classes: (These have been postponed for now)
- We offer regular in-person HomeBuyer Education classes in the counties of Knox (Rockland), Penobscot (Bangor and Millinocket), and Piscataquis (Dover) that allow clients to access MaineHousing programs. We also periodically offer in-person classes in Hancock (Ellsworth), Washington (Machias), and Waldo (Belfast) counties. Please check for the nearest class to you and to register using the link above. The in-person classes are $30 per person. Your registration will NOT be complete until the payment is received.
- We offer an online homebuyer education class through eHome America that allow clients to access MaineHousing programs. The online class costs $99 and requires a phone consultation with one of our housing counselors before receiving your certificate. Click here for more details.
- We additionally offer the online Framework homebuyer education classes that helps clients access Fannie Mae (FNMA) programs such as the HomeReady loan product. This class costs $75 and also requires a phone consultation with one of our housing counselors before receiving your certificate. Click here for more details.
- We are also a Bank of America Connect To Own Partner. If you are a potential Bank of America loan client, our Homebuyer Education classes on eHome or Framework are also accepted by them.
Please note that MaineStream Finance/Penquis does not provide refunds for homebuyer education classes. If you notify us within 48 hours of your selected class that you are unable to attend, we are happy to work with you to apply your registration to a future class.
